The Challenge
D&B's previous site, built on native Adobe Commerce, supported only Buy Online, Pick Up In-Store (BOPIS). Their goal: enable direct-to-consumer shipping, improve site speed, and upgrade search functionality. To support shipping, the new platform required:
- Real-time shipping rates (via ShipperHQ)
- Hazardous material restrictions by carrier
- State-specific tax rules (via Avalara)
- Enhanced inventory logic for fulfillment options
We also needed to:
- Build a React/Next.js frontend with Algolia-integrated search
- Retain the B2B site on Adobe Commerce, sharing admin functionality
- Support 650+ categories with a mobile-optimized mega menu
- Implement GraphQL compatibility for key extensions

Approach
To meet D&B Supply's goals of increased site speed, flexible fulfillment, and advanced search, we re-platformed their B2C website to FLUX, Binary Anvil's custom-built headless architecture. FLUX is powered by React and Next.js, with GraphQL enabling seamless connectivity to Adobe Commerce's backend. This decoupled architecture removes the frontend limitations of Adobe Commerce, allowing for greater flexibility in UI/UX, faster performance, and reduced upgrade effort. The new headless implementation also lowers total cost of ownership by simplifying future enhancements and minimizing technical debt. With direct integrations to third-party tools like Algolia and ShipperHQ, the site delivers a modern, scalable shopping experience that positions D&B Supply for long-term digital growth.
